I’ve been quiet as a churchmouse

Dear readers of all types, temperaments, and D&D edition preferences, I regret that I have not been able to post more than a few items in the last month. Until about August 1, I will not have good, consistent access to a high-speed Internet connection—and on those days when I make the 40-minute commute to the nearest decent university library, I really must diligently focus on accomplishing as much real academic work as I can during the library’s hours of operation. In addition, I don’t have a good place to record podcast commentary right now—I have the actual play files with me, no problem, but the house where I’m staying right now in the deep south offers little privacy and is cooled by noisy wall units and box fans. Podcast subscribers, you are frequently on my mind, but the logistics conspire against us at the moment. I’m sorry for that.

(Yes, this also means that I haven’t had a chance to read the Eberron Player’s Guide yet, that I’m many miles away from my gaming group, and having been forced by auto-repair needs [tire-related, and therefore not covered by the extended warranty] to cancel my trip to Origins, I’m undergoing a certain degree of withdrawal symptoms.)

No worries… life happens! Thanks for the update and good luck with all the current hardships… I don’t think I could survive without reliable internet!

    Speaking of Origins and Mice:

Have you taken a look at the Mouse Guard rpg (which i believe won Origin’s RPG of the year)?

I’m not sure if you’re a d20 only kind of guy (as your handle seems to indicate), or if you ever play around with other systems, but I recommend this one to you.

I’ve actually been taking a break from d&d lately, and playing some less-traditional rpgs (most notably Mouse Guard and another called Little Fears – two systems that just use plain ‘ol d6′s even), and I picked this one up a few months ago. There *are* a couple of mechanics that I personally don’t like (and have thus house-ruled out), but overall the system (which is based on a “lite” version of Burning Wheel) is interesting and enjoyable and, in particular, the *setting* is lots of fun.

Yes, I’m curious about the Mouse Guard RPG, but the issue is time. I’m currently trying to juggle an already-full life as husband, father, and professor, plus running a D&D campaign and just started an SWSE campaign … time won’t give me time.

The chip bag near the microphone near the end of episode 18 and through the part of episode 19 that I could get though was annoying enough that I was unable to listen to the majority episode 19 at all. Thanks for the player summary in episode 20.
