Icosahedrophilia Podcast, Episode 40: Microcosm, Part 4
Just what is this “microcosm” in the title of our adventure of January 17, 2009? Learn more about it in part 4, available now! Please listen now or subscribe via iTunes. This episode features the following segments:
- The Staging Area: I recap “Microcosm, Part 3,” in which the PCs find a secret passage beneath Mr. Leng’s Library. The passage leads down a confusing path into a large, almost spherical cavern of strange design.
- The Weather Report: The mysterious cavern holds three levitating “islands.” One is covered in vegetation, one has a gazebo-like building smack in the middle, and one is shrouded in darkness. Above the PCs, the top of the cavern glitters like stars, while the floor far belows seethes with ice and fire. The PCs make their way onto the verdant island, and interact with its guardians.
- The Prop Shop: In the audio for the Prop Shop segment, I promised you a look at the Dungeon Tiles layout I used to represent the floating island. However, the original seems to have disappeared from my iPhoto library, and all that’s left is the thumbnail. I’ll work on recovering that photo and I’ll post it here as soon as I can manage. Until then, I hope you enjoy the rest of the Prop Shop, in which I briefly review Dungeon Master’s Guide 2, chapter 4. You can also get more special release-week converage of DMG2 from the Tome Show, Fist Full of Comics and Games, Critical Hits, Dungeon Mastering, Geek Dad, the Chatty DM, and At-Will.
Here’s the countdown to convergence:
- Microcosm (2 episodes to go)
- The Doom of Sarnath (6 episodes)
- City of the Pirate Kings (4–5 episodes)
- Clash of the Pirate Kings (6–7 episodes)
- Escape from the Pirate Kings (4–5 episodes)
- The Sands of Time (4–5 episodes)
With the publication of this episode, I also transferred episode 36, “A Rite Most Foul, Part 9,” to the new server. I will continue to restore the availability of older episodes as quickly as I can without interfering with the publication of new episodes.

Hey!
I’ve been enjoying the podcast. It makes up for not getting to game as much any more.
