Icosahedrophilia Podcast, Episode 47: The Doom of Sarnath, Part 5

The ruins of Sarnath hold yet more mysteries for the crew of the Broken Promise in episode 47, “The Doom of Sarnath, Part 5″! We were unable to complete “The Doom of Sarnath” on February 6, 2009, so we finished it up on February 21, 2009. Please listen now or subscribe via iTunes. This episode features the following segments:

  • The Staging Area: I briefly recap “The Doom of Sarnath, Part 4.” Also, I explain that, owing to some sort of technical difficulty that I can’t explain or remember almost a year later, I somehow lost about an hour of play from our session on February 6.
  • The Weather Report: The PCs explore Sarnath some more, finding their way to an extra-large building that may have served as some sort of military headquarters. Inside, they begin to explore the prison wing.
  • The Prop Shop: I describe the map layout for the prison cellblock. See the extended content of this post for the map itself, which I built using pieces from Dungeon Tiles and Halls of the Giant Kings. I review The Plane Below, chapter 5, “Creatures of Chaos.”

Please enjoy “The Doom of Sarnath, Part 5,” and please plan to join us for the conclusion in “The Doom of Sarnath, Part 6″!

In the play segments for parts 5 and 6 of “The Doom of Sarnath,” most of the action takes place in a prison complex within a large fortress in the city. Here’s the basic cellblock layout; there are more details in the podcast.

And here’s a comparison of Stormhaven and Sarnath, with the Stormhaven map adapted from Stormhaven: City of a Thousand Seas by Mongoose Publishing. I originally gave this handout to the players after the fight against the kruthiks.

Here’s the countdown to convergence between the podcast publication schedule and the actual games played:

  • The Doom of Sarnath (1 more episode!)
  • City of the Pirate Kings (5 episodes)
  • Clash of the Pirate Kings (6 episodes)
  • Escape from the Pirate Kings (~5 episodes)
  • The Sands of Time (~5 episodes)
  • Desert of Desolation (~5 episodes)
  • Enter the Dragon (~5 episodes)
